Annual Price Adjustments Explained

Why Waster reviews prices on 1 July each year and how we communicate changes

At Waster, we are committed to keeping our pricing fair, transparent, and competitive. One of the questions we often receive is:

“When do Waster’s service prices change, and why?”

This post explains how annual price adjustments work and what customers can expect.

Annual Adjustment on 1 July

Waster generally applies price adjustments on 1 July each year.

  • This timing is consistent with the wider waste and recycling industry, where many costs reset at the start of the new financial year.

  • State governments typically announce increases in waste levies around this date, which directly impact disposal and recycling costs.

  • Customers are given one month’s written notice of any price change, as required under our Waste and Recycling Terms and Conditions.

Why Price Adjustments Happen

Waster seeks to minimise price changes wherever possible. Since our contracts are month-to-month, it’s in our interest to keep customers satisfied and pricing stable.

However, price adjustments are sometimes necessary due to:

  • Government waste levies increasing annually.

  • Rising disposal and recycling charges from operators and councils.

  • Transport and industry costs that can fluctuate year to year.

By adjusting pricing fairly, Waster can continue to provide a reliable and sustainable service.

Mid-Year Price Changes

While the annual increase is usually set for 1 July, sometimes circumstances outside our control mean changes happen mid-year.

Examples include:

  • A waste operator increasing their charges unexpectedly.

  • A state government introducing or raising a levy outside the July cycle.

In these cases:

  • Waster will pass on the charge only where necessary.

  • We will provide customers with as much notice as possible before changes take effect.

Our Promise to Customers

  • We will always communicate clearly and give at least one month’s notice for planned price adjustments.

  • Where mid-year changes occur, we will explain the reason and pass through costs as fairly as possible.

  • Our aim is to remain one of the most transparent and flexible providers in the industry.

Final Word

In summary:

  • Waster’s prices are generally adjusted on 1 July each year, in line with industry and government levy changes.

  • Customers receive one month’s notice of any increase.

  • On rare occasions, pricing may change mid-year due to external cost pressures — and we’ll always provide advance notice.
