Why Front Lift Bins Are Not Allowed at Residential Sites

At Waster, we do not supply front lift bins to residential properties. These bins are designed for large commercial and industrial sites, and they are unsuitable for use in residential areas for several reasons.

Why Front Lift Bins Are Unsuitable for Residential Areas

1. Noise Complaints

Front lift trucks are loud when lifting and emptying bins. In quiet residential streets, these services can cause complaints from neighbours, particularly when collections occur early in the morning or late at night.

2. Lack of Space

Residential areas rarely have the flat, open concrete surfaces required to safely place and service front lift bins. Tight driveways, narrow streets, and small yards make it unsafe for trucks to manoeuvre.

3. Health and Safety Concerns

Front lift bins are large, heavy, and industrial. Placing them in residential streets or small yards creates risks for:

  • Pedestrians using footpaths.

  • Neighbours, children, or pets in close proximity.

  • Collection crews trying to service bins in restricted areas.

4. Council Curfew Restrictions

Many councils impose curfews restricting waste truck operations in residential areas, especially at night when most front lift services are scheduled. This makes it impossible to run reliable services in these zones.

5. Street and Footpath Obstructions

Front lift bins cannot be left on residential streets or footpaths for collection. They would:

  • Block footpaths and driveways.

  • Create hazards for vehicles and pedestrians.

  • Breach local council regulations.

When Waster Can Service Residential Addresses

Waster can provide bin services in residential areas only where the site is a business customer with an ABN. Examples include:

  • Home-based businesses.

  • Childcare centres operating from a residential site.

  • Tradies running a business from home.

In these cases, Waster may provide smaller rear lift bins or wheelie bins, provided the site passes a safety and access inspection.
